Full texts of national copyright and related rights legislation of UNESCO Member States can now be accessed on the website of UNESCO's Culture Sector. The collection currently comprises about 100 laws and is constantly being updated and completed.
During the World summit on the information society, l'IFLA published a world statistics. It is a short draft, but it is very interesting. Data are based and try to merge the more is possible the UNESCO and Libecon statistics.
Community legislation on the collective management of rights, and particularly on the governance of collecting societies, would be highly desirable. This is one of the main conclusions arrived at in a Communication published by the European Commission following an in-depth analysis of the issues surrounding the management of copyright and related rights.
The Green Paper is divided into two chapters. Chapter 1 sets out to describe how the information society ought to function. It shows how important the information society is to the European Community, and how it fits into the single market framework. It tries to identify the issues that arise as a result of the emergence of the information society. Chapter 2 picks out nine of the points regarding copyright and related rights which were brought up in contributions from interested parties and which the Commission believes should be given priority in order to ensure that the information society can function properly. The Commission asks interested parties for their views on the various technical and legislative questions raised.- On March 29th the definitive law by decree of the Council of Ministers has been approved according to the communitary law 2001 (39/2002) applies in Italy the directive 2001/29/CE on the harmonization of the copyright and of the Information Society rights. Opib will indicate the final text as soon as it will be published on the Internet.
