DELOS - Network of Excellence on Digital Libraries.
DELOS, approved as a accompanying measure to the Key action III: "Multimedia Contents and Tools", has the aim to create an easly access to the cultural and scientific heritage through innovative forms of multimedia contents and advanced technologies of access, filtration, analysis and information management.
The project, coordinated by the Institute of Elaboration of the information of the CNR, it is intended as a laboratory and meeting point of initiatives on the theme of Digital Library.
DELOS is organized around five forums:
- "Digital library research forum" is intended to stimulate the research and to encourage the scientific collaborations in European environment;
- "Digital library evalutation forum" has the engagement to define new criterions for the evaluation to measure the processes of interoperabiliy, the formats, the systems of access;
- "Standardization forum" focused on the problematic concerning the metadata, with the objective to get at the definition of usable formats for objects of different typologies of supports;
- "Training and technology transfer forum", whose goal is to highlight the benefits deriving from the transfer of digital library technologies to industry and therefore to market;
- "International cooperation forum" devoted to promote the widening of the collaboration networks to external reality to the European union (it Usa, Russia etc.).
The DELOS web site furnishes information on the principal activities of the project, on the progress of the forums, on the events like seminars and lectures, on the relative European projects to the Digital Library.
