MULTI.CO.M

MULTImedia COllection Management

The project

The project Multimedia Collection Management - MULTI.CO.M. - intends to fill an empty space in the training of the personnel managing the valorisation and preservation of audio and video materials. This heritage represents a very important aspect of the XIX and XX Centuries memory and it will be, in its new digital form, the documentation of our technological era. The audio and video collections are spread over Europe, in some large public collections based on legal deposit, in TV and radio collections and in some important but small specialised collections. The digital technology offers a valid tool for preserving and restoring the contents of the audiovisual documentation that risks vanishing for the fragility of traditional supports. About the preservation of audiovisual documents, the European Union has already supported many projects which have also got some pieces of contents for professional update. On the contrary, little attention has been paid to the systematic training for the global managing of an audiovisual collection, i.e. from the phase of creating a collection to the phase of management, services and valorisation of the collection itself.

Objectives

The project aims to realize a first pattern of e-Learning pilot course for the complete training of professional skills of documentalists for the audio and video collections, with particular attention to the matters of managing, services and valorisation.

The first step is to carry out a compared analysis at European level of the professional figures involved in the sector and the development of a framework for a European-wide Career Cluster. On the base of this analysis the project will create a detailed map of the competences in line with the international standards.

The second step is going to be the development of a first set of e-Learning materials to be used in an Open and Distance learning scheme.

The final step is the definition of an educational model for training both for people engaged in the sector of enhancing and preserving collections and for people looking for a job in this area.

Outputs

The project will produce:

  • appropriate e-learning material in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish;
