EPOCH - Excellence in Processing Open Cultural Heritage

EPOCH is a Network of Excellence including 86 European cultural institutions joining their efforts to integrate the currently fragmented efforts in research directed toward developing intelligent IST technologies for cultural heritage and their use for sustainable Cultural Heritage applications. Through these activities the Network will provide a holistic inter-disciplinary view of the research agenda and act as a mechanism to bring cohesion to the efforts of network members in forming a European Research Area.

The network is designed to serve as a centre of gravity both for its members and for other research groups with interests and background in this area, for formulating the research agenda for future development of the technologies which support cultural heritage applications. The network will strengthen inter-disciplinary cohesion through projects, skills brokerage, dissemination, education and training, the activities of a review college, as well as on-line resources and events.

EPOCH will combine expertise and resources of technologists, heritage administrators, heritage professionals and communication experts concerned with the effective and sustainable application of digital technology to archaeological research and cultural heritage presentation at museums, monuments, and historic sites.
