- eContent Award 2007 - Italy
Italian eContent Award 2007 is organised by Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and MEDICI Framework and inspired by the WSA - WORLD SUMMIT AWARD in order to select quality e-content and promote creativity and innovation in new media applications in Italy. This multi-aim award, encourages creativity, drives Young Talents toward international contests, nominates the eight best Italian eContent products (one for each category: eCulture, eScience, eGovernment, eEntertainment, eHealth, eInclusion, eLearning, eBusiness) to next edition of the World Summit Award (2007).
- Global Information Society Watch 2007 Report
The Global Information Society Watch 2007 report - the first in a series of annual reports- looks at state of the field of information and communication technology (ICT) policy at local and global levels and particularly how policy impacts on the lives of people living in developing countries. It includes studies of the ICT policy situation in twenty-two countries from four regions.

The European Council has endorsed the Commission's proposal to focus on four priority areas for competitiveness between now and the end of 2007, following its summit meeting in Brussels on 23 and 24 March.

Human Language Technologies (HLT) - a rather abstract title - enables computer-based systems to understand what we humans are saying, and underpins automatic machine translation. It's something European research excels at, and is of strategic importance to the European Union. There are currently eleven official languages, but this number will grow to more than twenty when the new Candidate Countries join. The EUROMAP Language Technologies IST project, has produced an interesting report, Benchmarking HLT Progress in Europe, that shows the position of HLT in the EU; what it's about, which countries are in the lead, and more.
The Commission on 1 June 2005 adopted the initiative “i2010: European Information Society 2010” to foster growth and jobs in the information society and media industries. i2010 is a comprehensive strategy for modernising and deploying all EU policy instruments to encourage the development of the digital economy: regulatory instruments, research and partnerships with industry. The Commission will in particular promote high-speed and secure broadband networks offering rich and diverse content in Europe.
Is now available on the European Commission web site a document by the eEurope Advisory Group which gives a strategic vision on the "i2010", program whose aim is to realize in Europe a competitive Information Society before the 2010.
From 01 February 2005, the Information Society and Media Directorate General of the Commission has two new Directorates and three new Units. This reorganisation completes the changes following President Barroso's decision to bring together under the responsibility of Commissioner Viviane Reding, all three aspects of modern day electronic communications in the fields of broadcasting, computer networks and of electronic communication services.
Olli Rehn, the Finnish Commissioner for Enterprise and Information Society who replaced Erkki Liikanen in early July, has said that a major overhaul is needed to get the Lisbon agenda back on track.

The Commission’ Commission’s s Enterprise Directorate-General is developing a new innovation action plan, and has launched a public consultation to gather contributions from innovation stakeholders in Europe.
The new frontiers for the Information Society development pass, in France, for a long term Government programme, to create trust conditions for the Internet services providers and the creation of a users efficient protection. Strongly wanted by the Government and presented by the Industry French Minister now it's become an "ad hoc" law act.
On the final day of the World Summit on the Information Society, the representatives of 176 different nations agreed on a ‘plan of action’ designed to deliver the benefits of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to all parts of the globe.
The Union’s priority for R&D in Information Society Technologies (IST) aims to bring technologies closer to people, ensuring that all Europe’s citizens and businesses can, and actually do benefit from technological advance. As a result of the first IST Call for Proposals under the sixth Framework Programme, the Commission’s Information Society Directorate-General will be launching 236 new IST projects to the tune of 1 billion Euro of Community funding. This represents the largest award of its kind in the history of the Framework Programme.
