  • Catalogue of the manuscripts in the libraries of Veneto
    The Nuova Biblioteca Manoscritta is the online a catalogue which has been produced as part of a project to catalogue the manuscripts conserved in libraries in the Veneto region, as well as the name of the software system developed to describe these manuscripts. NBM provides information on the libraries that take part in the project, and material for manuscript consultation and research. NBM is promoted and funded by the Regione del Veneto, together with the Musei Civici Veneziani.
  • Presented the Twentieth Edition of the International Book Fair in Turin
    The International book Fair in Turin celebrates in the 2007 its Twentieth edition. The exhibition will be held at the Lingotto Fiere from 10 to 14 May 2007 with a program full of events. This year theme will be the border intended not only as a limit, but also as an element to join different physical, cultural, and conceptual entities.
  • Bogotá (Colombia), World Book Capital City 2007
    The city of Bogotá was nominated as World Book Capital 2007 for the following reasons: comprehensiveness of the bid; presence of several specific initiatives for the World Book Capital City 2007 programme, including creative activities for the promotion of reading; involvement of all local public and private stakeholders in the book sector.
  • The European library opens at the Goethe-Institut in Rome.
    On October 24th, 2006 the European Library opened: a meeting, promotion, and exchange place between the different European cultures. It is a laboratory project of the Libraries of Rome, in cooperation with the Hungary Academy, the French, Netherlands, and Switzerland embassies, the British Council, the Culture Austrian Forum, the Goethe Institut, the Insituto Cervantes, the Polish Institut, the Institute of Slovakia, the Swisse Institute, the Italian Office of the European Parliament and the Italian representation of the European Commission.
  • France: approved the new copyright regulation
    The French Parliament approved in the late June 2006 the changes to the copyright regulation. The law is based on the Directive 2001/29/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 May 2001 on the harmonisation of certain aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society
  • The Italian Book Institute
    On February 8th 2006 has been presented the Istituto per il Libro - Book Institute, an institution with its own technical and scientific autonomy with the aim, besides, to carry out an articulated research activity and to define the technical addresses within the Book World, including the active participation of authors, translators, publishers, booksellers, and readers.
    The Book Institute will operate a coordination role with Regions and local bodies, creating synergies to plan and carry out projects which underline initiatives quality and richness over the entire national territory.
  • Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, call for proposals
    The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is seeking proposals for activities and initiatives that support intercultural dialogue in the 35 Euro-Mediterranean countries. The Programme is co-funded by the European Union and the 35 members of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
    The three deadlines for submission of proposals are March 1 st, June 1 st and November 1 st, 2006 at 16:00 hrs Egyptian time.

    The following thematic priorities for 2006, all of which are equally ranked, are:
    • EuroMed music and other cultural/artistic creation;
    • EuroMed schools programme;
    • EuroMed teams of young researchers;
    • Summer schools/exchange programmes (artists in residence);
    • Libraries, promotion of books and reading, translation;
    • Intercultural exchanges for women in civil society organizations.
  • The Get Caught Reading Campaign
    “Get Caught Reading” is a European wide campaign which promotes books and reading through various media and by a well-focused communication strategy.
  • EU project seeks to save endangered historical documents
    Libraries, archives and museums worldwide are faced with the immense problem of preserving countless paper documents, endangered by the corrosive properties of certain old ink recipes. In seeking to improve the understanding of ink corrosion, the Commission is funding a project that will establish a set of best conservation practices for these documents.The InkCor project has received Euro 1.41 million funding under the energy, environment and sustainable development section of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5).
  • CERTIDoc.The European project for European certification of the information professionals.
    CERTIDoc is a project of three professional associations in the field of information and documentation: ADBS1, DGI2, and SEDIC3. They are accompanied by the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Bureau Van Dijk. The named participants cover the profession on all aspects of information, e.g. gathering, conserving, adding value, giving access, and using information. Therefore all kind of professionals in the information sector are concerned: documentation specialists as librarians, archivists, knowledge managers, etc.

    Inside the IFLA web site was born a new page entirely devoted to FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) and its studies.
