The Treaty of Lisbon entered into force on 1 December 2009. This event was marked by a ceremony in Lisbon, organized by the Portuguese government, the Swedish presidency and the European Commission.


On 1 January 2010, Spain took over the Presidency of the EU. The priorities of the new EU Presidency are: economic revival, the EU’s global standing and citizens’ rights, climate change, Treaty of Lisbon.


Istanbul European Capital of Culture 2010. Istanbul has been chosen to be this year's European capital of culture, together with the cities of Essen (Germany) and Pécs (Hungary).


Under the “Action Jean Monnet” programme promoted by the European Commission, the Jean Monnet European Module entitled “Information and integration in the European Union: the role of archives and libraries” has been set up at the “Scuola Speciale per Archivisti e Bibliotecari”. Graduates and students from any faculty can enrol in this free Module within the 14th January 2010.


The MIUR is organizing for the 3 February 2010 the Erasmus Mundus II National Day. This event is aimed to universities, to the institutions of the AFAM (Alta formazione artistica e musicale), research organizations and others organizations which can be interested in call for proposals – EACEA/29/09 for the realization of the Erasmus Mundus II. Application within the 29th January 2010.

A dedicated Information Day for the Digital Libraries theme of ICT-PSP Programme will take place on 4 February 2010 in Luxembourg.


International Infoday in Prague on 21 January 2010: "Cognitive Systems and Robotics" in 6th ICT call.


Eu publications only a click away. The new EU Digital Library has come: it is possible to consult 60 years of documentations. More than 110 thousand of publications in 50 languages.

Culture Programme (2007-2013): new call for proposals. On the 3rd July 2009 the Official Journal of the European Union published a new call for proposals that covers the strands 1 (Support for cultural projects) and 2 (Support for active organisations) of the Culture programme (2007-2013).


European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010.
With the decision No 1098/2008/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 October 2008, the year 2010 was proclaimed “European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion” to raise public awareness about these issues and renew the political commitment of the EU and its Member States to combat poverty and social exclusion. This decision was issued in the Official Journal of the European Union (L 298) of the 7th of November 2008.
